Emergencies may occur during orthodontic treatment. Don't panic--they are rarely serious.
-
A wire pokes the cheek, causing minor injuries: put orthodontic wax on the sharp end and call us.
-
A brace comes unglued: if it doesn't hurt or interfere with your daily activities, don't do anything! Just cover it with orthodontic wax and call us.
-
Canker sores or small cuts or wounds appear on the inside of the lips and cheeks or on the tongue: this is normal, especially early in treatment when the mucous membranes are still adjusting to the braces. Use an oral gel such as "Pansoral" or "Aftamed" to relieve any pain or irritation.
-
Tooth sensitivity when chewing: this is normal the first few days following the placement of an appliance. Don't hesitate to take painkillers.
